lockdown

Rusty Love

It’s been one hell of a long time since I’ve heard any sort of live music thanks to those good old lockdowns but my wait finally ended as I was recently invited down to photograph The Carousels perforing at Dudestock.

You may be able to tell from the photos that this wasn’t any normal gig, where’s the stage you may ask? Well who needs one when you’ve got an old Ford Capri getting done up next to you and a hotrod outside. You see, this gig was a get together for fans of the Youtube channel Rusty Love where they refurb old cars and get them firing on all cylinders once again. It was also a massive pleasure to photograph The Carousels once again, I hadn’t seen them since March 2019 (which feels like a lifetime ago) when they supported Shaun Ryder at the Mill Digbeth. Not only was this their first gig since before lockdown but also their first gig with new bassist Sean completing the britrock quartet.

Now lockdown’s officially lifting with no restrictions in a few weeks I can’t wait to get back to shows, whether they’re at proper venues or in a garage, the wackier the better; I’ve really missed live music.

Birds > Covid

What is there to do while the world is on lockdown and there aren’t any shows to photograph?

Get your ass up at 5am, get to the local woodland and get shooting!

Turns out wildlife and nature photographers have next level patience when it comes to finding and tracking their subjects. Now i’m no nature photographer, I used to do a bit of macro work when I first got into photography but that was years ago. This takes a whole different level of skill and while I am happy with these images there’s nothing here world class but that doesn’t really matter. To me, it was lovely being able to get out and enjoy the peace & tranquility of the woods before it was descended upon by dog walkers and runners.
